The Recession… A boom for the school industry

The Recession… A boom for the school industryWhile much of the country has been stuck in the recession quagmire, executives in the school industry are enjoying the ride. The automotive plants are experiencing layoffs and plant closings, the banks are asking for bailouts and the career schools are growing and flourishing.

How can we explain this phenomenon? It is quite simple really. With the influx of unemployed comes a need for retraining and often funding to support this. People need practical work skills that will land them a well paid job in a short amount of time. Who better to serve these individuals in need? The career school industry. With programs in allied medical, technology and other skill based professions, career colleges have become an invaluable tool for those needing to get back into the job market. We have an almost insatiable need in this country for trained nurses and other medical professionals. A person can come through a career school and leave with a practical, marketable skill. What a great sales pitch during a time when jobs are hard to come by. The best part, it is not just a sales pitch, it is true.

Where does this leave those of us who work in the career school industry? It leaves us with an opportunity laid at our doorstep. This is the time for established companies to branch out and fledgling companies to spread their wings. This is the time for industry executives to show what they have to offer. This is the time for companies to search for those candidates that are going to propel them into the next phase of their company’s growth? Have you joined the ride?
