The “Typical” Student

An interesting broadcast on NPR  highlights a trend in education that has been developing over the last several decades. The young, naive student fresh out of the nest is no longer the typical college student. The newscast notes that over 70% of students currently enrolled in some form of higher education are non-traditional students. Many have families, jobs and other responsibilities. How will this effect the future of career education? One would have to think that the industry will be in an ideal position to flourish as students look for the most cost effective, time efficient, appealing programs with the highest placement rates. This may be a double edged sword, however. These adult students with real life experience are likely to be more savy consumers who expect more from the institution they select. I encourage you to listen to the story on NPR. It is worth the time.
